VfB Stuttgart’s triple injury blow

11 Feb

Having just beaten ‘Gladbach in their do-or-die encounter, Stuttgart fans could have been forgiven for thinking their luck was beginning to change. Not so, it appears.

Stuttgart have huge midfield problems with three vital players out injured:

  • Timo Gebhart has aggravated an ankle issue from the back end of 2010.
  • Christian Gentner has torn a collateral ligament in his ankle and will miss Saturday’s game against Nurnberg at least.
  • News of Arthur Boka’s injury will rock fans of VfB hardest, however. The Ivorian has returned from international duty with what Stuttgart believe to be a seriously torn knee ligament. He’s likely to be out for at least a month – a devastating blow for Stuttgart’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

With an already daunting trip to Lisbon (Benfica) on Thursday, Bruno Labbadia’s side could not have asked for worse timing.
